the things a woman thinks about before leaving the house

the things a woman thinks about before leaving the house:

-do i have my keys?
-is my dress too short? will i get harassed about it? should i change?
-is this dress still too short? should i change again?
-do i have on too much makeup? will someone say something about it?
-do i have my mace/rape whistle?
-do i have sunglasses so i can avoid eye contact with men on the train?
-do i have headphones so i can drown out cat calls?
-should i take a different walking route to avoid the men on the corner?
-how far do i have to walk from the train/bus/parking lot to my destination?
-will i get out of work before dark?
-if i get out of work after dark, who can i walk to the train/bus/parking lot with?
-will the man who always sexually harasses me be working at the laundromat?
-will he follow me home like he did last time?
-are my keys readily available so i can get inside quickly?
-will my roommate/partner/friend be nearby if i need to call?
-is my phone charged in case i have an emergency?
